With great sadness, we announce the passing of Panagiotis Karanicolas on June 7, 2023 at the age of 74.
Panagiotis, known as “Pete” to his friends and family, is survived and deeply missed by his wife of nearly 47 years, Koula. He was the proud father of Christos and his wife Niki, and Elene and her husband Charlie. He was the beloved Papou of his grandchildren Charlie and Carissa who he cherished. He was the loving brother of Popi and her dearly departed husband Vasili, Themi and his wife Georgia, and dearly departed Ada and her husband Mike. He was the beloved brother-in-law to Veta, and Savvas and his wife Roula, in Greece. And, beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, and their children.
Born in Limnos, Greece, Pete was the beloved son of the late Christos and Eleni. He came to New York and resided in Queens for 50 years. Pete worked as a Bus Driver (a profession he loved and enjoyed) with Green Bus Lines and MTA Bus and retired in 2010 after nearly 25 years. Pete and Koula recently moved to Massapequa to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Pete loved his family and loved spending time with them at family gatherings and barbecues. He especially enjoyed flowers and gardening in the beautiful backyard of his home, going to the beach with Koula, or playing outside or in the pool with Charlie and Carissa.
Pete was a gentle man with a big heart who will always be remembered for his big smile, laugh, and storytelling. He will be greatly missed by his entire family.
Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
