Thomas served with pride in the United States Army, stationed in Wurzburg, Germany. He courageously fought as a Combat Veteran during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Prior to mobilization, he was captured in a poignant moment with his son by NY Newsday, under the headline “Ready on the Firing Line.”

For over 30 years, Thomas dedicated himself to the New York Stock Exchange, where he served as the Vice President of Computer Operations. Among the numerous honorable moments in his career, one stands out: On March 10, 2010, he was privileged to ring the NYSE Opening Bell. Following his tenure at the NYSE, he transitioned to the role of Global Operations Manager at Credit Suisse. Even after retiring from his career in information technology, Thomas continued to lend his expertise, working as a tax professional at H&R Block to support and assist others.

He is survived by his loving partner, Amy. He was a loving parent to Stephen (Amanda) Selvaggio and Susan (Keith) Ratigan, and a cherished grandparent to Gabriella and Gino Selvaggio.

With caring thoughts, our prayers are with all.

My sincerest condolences to Tom's family and friends. His passing is such a loss to all who knew him. There are soooooo many memories that put a smile on my face and in my heart having dealt with him as both a co-worker and friend. He put tremendous energy into all the things that were important to him and the people around him. It seemed his energy level was always cranked up to 11. Never one to walk away from a "difference of opinion" Tom would make sure you were still in his circle of relationships when there were disagreements! Tom, you can never be forgotten. I will miss you dearly.........

My uncle was a good man. He was a son, a brother, a soldier, a husband, a father, a father in law, a godfather, a partner, a grandad, a friend, and brother-in-law. He was very smart. Very level headed. Thought ahead, but was also very present. Prior planning he would say, prevented poor performance. Uncle Tommy’s 5 Ps. He had many Tommy-isms. His kids know them all, as I’m sure does Amy. He was a very loyal and hardworking man. His character stood out among others, He knew exactly who he was, and what was important to him. His kids and his family were important to him. His life planning was important to him, Amy was important to him. And most recently his grandchildren. He loved Gabby and Gino. He was the best grandpa, even doing full time duty as babysitter when needed. I wish his grandchildren had more time to know him, and how much he loved them. How he probably already prior planned their savings and retirement options. He will be abundantly missed by anyone who knew him. Realistic, hard-working, and a damn good American citizen. I often told him I wished he’d run for President. He’d have made a good one. But he’d say nahh, that’s not for me. Proud to call him uncle and Godfather. I will miss his card each Christmas and birthday with his warm wishes, prompt and consistent. So much love for this gentleman. Wish I could hear his voice again. Until we meet again.

I had the pleasure of working with Tom at H&R Block for past 8 years. Even more, sitting in next cubicle and listening to Tom’s wit, humor and patience with his clients and making me laugh out loud. I will miss Tom and his funny sayings and one liners. He was an awesome colleague and we will miss him so. To his Family and Friends, my heartfelt condolences to you and pray God gives you solace in the coming days, weeks, months ahead. Still in shock as we really thought Tom had a fighting chance. As Tom would say “just another day in happy land” Fly High Tom! RIP. Thank you for your Service!

My sincere condolences to Amy and Tom's family. It was a great pleasure to have worked for Tom at Credit Suisse and become his friend. Tom's wit and humor will always remain in my memory which will bring a smile to my face every time. Dear Tommy, I hope somehow, someway you know how much you were admired, respected and will be missed by so many - you were the "constant" in your family. Thank you so much for being an amazing UNCLE to my children - you've left a huge and positive impact on both of them. My deepest condolences to Amy and Tom's family at his untimely passing. Tom was one of a kind, a true gentleman, leader, mentor and friend. He WAS the NYSE control room, and I will forever cherish having worked with him at the NYSE and having him as a friend. As Tom always said once the problems were resolved, "Looking good, outta be in Hollywood", Rest in peace my friend, forever in our hearts until we meet again.

I feel so sad for all of us in the Selvaggio family. All I have ever heard from anyone in our family regarding Tommy were wonderful comments about his caring, his kindness and genuine interest for the family. I'm happy I got to be in his company a few years ago and it was so nice speaking with him on the phone a couple of times in recent years also. I enjoyed so much listening to him tell stories of our family and loved his laugh. My thoughts with the family of a long time coworker

I am sorry for your loss. I got to know Tom at SIAC. Every time I saw him, he would greet me with a smile. I used to look forward to his daily announcements over the intercom. One memorable one: "Yes, folks, miracles do happen at SIAC."

I offer my deepest condolences to Tom's family and loved ones. Tom and I worked at SIAC, later to become a part of the NYSE. My concentration was in software development.Tom was in operations.Tom always made me feel like a team member, dismantling the natural divide between operations and development. He was a pleasure to work with. So glad to have known him. Amen.

Being an only child I was fortunate enough to have Sibling like brothers, in Billy, Thomas, and Robert from Dean Street to Van Sicklen Street , losing Thomas feels like losing a piece of my own history. Thomas was always kind considerate, and one who always paid attention to detail. I’m forever, grateful for how he looked after his second set of parents in my mother and father. both Joyce and I sent our love and hugs to Thomases family. There are no words to express how sorry we are for his loss. May you all find strength in the coming days. May there come a time where you can remember Thomas with a smile instead of a tear.

Words can never express how my heart aches. Thomas was 16 when I can into the family, the little brother..His smile kindness will always be with me..To Amy Stephen Susan Fran and all the family & friends the loss is so just so devastating..
