Please pass this on to Vanni's family. I went to elementry school and Jr.High PS126 with Vanni Damiani. We were kids together and he was a great, great friend to all of us. We cheered his boxing and we double cheered him at Madison Square Garden. We lost touch with each other when I joined the Navy, but I always remembered him and the great and dumb things we did together back in Astoria. Seventy years later I read an obit. and I'm still shocked and extremely saddened.

I am deeply and sincerely sorry for your loss. Mr. Damiani was a true Champion to all of us. He was a great man always in every bodies corner. He will be missed greatly and remembered often. My condolences to the Damiani family.

I have fond memories of him in the gym teaching and coaching in his subtle manner that instilled confidence while learning about the sport and life values.
