Vincent Scalcione
1938 – 2023
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Vincent Scalcione of Massapequa, New York on October, 6, 2023. Vincent (also known as Vinny, Pop, Poppy, Cap) was 85 years old. He was a loving husband to Margaret, for over 61 years. He was a devoted father to his 4 children Jim, Kerry, Carolyn and Chris; as well as their significant others Elizabeth, George, Scott, and Lauren. He was the best Poppy to his grandchildren (also known as his “Eleven Stars”) Kaitlyn, Brendan, Vincent, Julianna, Danielle, Lucas, Kristin, Matthew, Alexander, Allie, & Melanie.
Vincent was born in the Bronx where he spent 37 years as a firefighter holding the prestigious title of captain. Vincent met his loving wife and raised their 4 children together in Massapequa. He had a love for life and touched everyone’s life that he entered, leaving them with nothing but joy. Vincent loved his family immensely and was always excited to create new memories in his favorite places such as Pocono Manor, Woodloch and Aruba. He always put his family first, making them the center of his life. Vincent’s hobbies included fishing, boating, clamming and horse racing. Vincent had a passion for racing horses through his business, Eleven Stars Racing Stables, named after his grand children. Our hearts are forever broken but the legacy he has built will never die.
In lieu of flowers, Vincent Scalcione’s family is requesting that all donations are made to the FDNY family transport. As all of you already know, Vinny was a warrior that never wanted to give up. He chose to go to the hyperbaric chamber daily at the advice of his doctors to help his healing process. Vinny became immobile and transporting him became difficult. The fire department helped in getting Vinny to his doctors appointments to receive treatment. Volunteers showed up daily to help Vinny in and out of the house and transport him in a wheelchair accessible van. It was a lifesaver!
